A Busy Feathered Star



I finally finished the feathered star for my medallion. I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to pull it off, but it went together very easily. It lies flat though I may end up having to cut off one of the points. I’ll be happy if it is only one! I ended up using Marsha McCloskey’s Feathered Star Quilt Blocks I. I found the instructions very clear and will definitely make more of these blocks. Thanks to Dawn for recommending this book. This block is called Radiant Star and is the easiest feathered star to make. I was at the AQS show in Lancaster last week and picked up a Little Bits Feathered Star pattern (paper piecing) as Plan B. Glad I didn’t need to use it for this. I have some other ideas for it - all using a little more calming fabric. I’m not so sure about the fabrics I chose for this block. I’m planning on a very busy jubilee quilt so maybe once I surround it with other blocks it will just blend in.

    Wow, that is beautiful! I love it in all those colors!
    I like that little subtitle on the book, too lol "Really hard blocks that take a long time to make" Having just finished a feathered star last night myself, I find that hilariously funny for some reason! Still a bit giddy, perhaps!

    these feathered star blocks always intimidate me. i've yet to give one a try. yours is outstanding~!
    i, too noticed the subtitle on the book . . . not boosting my confidence any.

    Oh maureen I love this block, the fabrics are fun! I have that book and have to admit have always wanted to make these blocks, just a tad intimidated!

    WOW, Maureen, what a masterpiece you're gonna make with this quilt ! Those blocks are breathtaking. Feathered star is really a challenging block. I once tried handpiecing one, and ended up with... a bra! LOL But I didn't say my last word, and will certainly try again, some day.

    I love the fabrics in your block and I like the busyness of it. Your block is great - you did a wonderful job. Many of my friends have used that book and had good success but I have never attempted a feathered star. Look forward to what comes next with your quilt! :)

    beautiful! and your points look excellent. I've always loved the subtitle of the book.
