The Bride's Block!!

I am currently working on my Jubilee quilt, "A Bountiful Life".  Here is my bride's block!  She is such cutie, with her pantaloons peeking out...cute, I'm telling you!  Karen Mowrey designed this quilt, based on the old, old Civil War Brides Quilt...I am really loving working on this project!!

Have a happy day, everyone!

The back.....and there's a story behind it!

I've been sewing like mad on the letters for the back of my Jubilee, and I finally finished them.  Now it makes sense to show!  All the letters still need trimming up, and the bottom orange area is going to be all crazy-patch pieced, but it's well on its way!

And here's the story behind it.......

When we first moved to Maine, I used to drive all over New England exploring.  One of the first drives I made was to Connecticut, driving down I-95.  Well, as you drive along south, there is an overpass across the highway, and on it is this piece of graffiti........"Perhaps some chocolate chips cookies and milk!"

Well.....the second I saw heart skipped a beat!  It's the best graffiti I've ever seen! starts with the word Perhaps!  How cool is that!  I just love that word!  It's so sweet and kind, and so unexpected in a graffiti!  Coming from Southern California, where the graffiti is all gang-based, harsh and evil......I thought that this was just so darned sweet!

Second......who doesn't like chocolate chip cookies!?!  Yeah!

And, of course, being I'm lactose intolerant, the 'milk' part is a stretch, but when ya gotta dunk, you just gotta dunk!

So.......I looked into this graffiti, cuz I was just so taken by it, and it turns out it is the answer to a question posed on a previous overpass.  The question being......"What will set you free?"

That's a pretty profound question, but in my book.......that answer says it all!  Straight and to the is just that simple sometimes!  And shouldn't it be!?!  :o)

So......for years now, I've always wanted to put that little phrase on a quilt........and what better quilt than my Jubilee!  It's all about me, for me, what I love, and it just had to be!  And I'm loving it!

I'm going to be piecing the crap out of the bottom orange section this weekend, while hubby is gone on a golf weekend with our son.  Once the bottom is all pieced I can start sectioning it together!  Woohoo!  It's really coming together!  :o)

Have a wonderful day!

Finally Four

Here are the 4 center blocks - done! Yay!!!  I used 2 different fabrics for the blocks and another fabric for the setting triangles.
Here is an early picture (it's not this yellow) - trying to get an idea what it would look like.  Seeing these laying on the floor, I was pretty sure I was on the right track.
At this stage, however, I had reservations that it would turn out. Between the small pieces and the reverse applique, it was slow going.
But now my center is done and I'm starting work on the vines and leaves - my favorite part!!  I've had a little trouble getting the vines into a layout that I like - each quandrant will be different.  There's been a lot of pinning and un-pinning, but it's definitely coming along - I'm still smitten :).

The top is done! Woohoo!

I finished putting the last two borders on the top of my Jubilee quilt!  It's now done!  Sweet!

And yeah, the top and bottom border are alike, the right border is different, and there is no left border!  Just like my inspiration quilt from the Red & White show!  I'm loving stepping out of THAT box!  Wahoo!  It's a totally new me at 50!

Now to start the pieced back!

Have a great weekend!

Nearly there!

It's been a while since I've posted on my Jubilee quilt.  But I'm nearly done with the top.  Just two borders to add, and it's complete!  Woohoo!

I'm just loving it so much!  And I've started planning the pieced back now, too!  Woohoo!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

A finished block and a new name

I have finally finished the first block with all its little parts.  Can I say I'm smitten??   I took this picture outside so the colors are pretty true.  The contrast of the pink and red is so pretty and the greens and cheddar totally balance it out I think.
Here's the picture of the block that inspired me.  Considering the fact that I drafted this block from this picture, I'm happy.  All I know about this quilt is that it was made in 1860, so the name of my quilt is Jubilee Tribute.
There's more to come, the other blocks are coming along :).
Have a great day,
