Hi there, it's been a while. I have been dragging my heels with my Jubilee Quilt but thought it was time for an update. I spent ages trying to figure out what border to add to my star blocks.
I finally added the half square triangles. Now I have spent months trying to decide what to put on the applique borders. I decided my original idea of having my cats and dogs represented on the borders was not going to happen. My total lack of drawing skills is holding me back.
I very nearly gave up on having an applique border at all. As you can see I've been appliquing my initials. I was a bit concerned that they are a bit too big and maybe I should have stuck to one colour. I would appreciate some feedback if anyone has a suggestion.

Hooray! I think your letters are just great. I like that they are different colors and that you made them.
ReplyDeleteCheck out old quilts for ideas of what else to include and don't worry about drawing skills. I use folded freezer paper to make easy patterns.

I love the multi-colored letters; they echo what is happening in the pieced stars. I think the bold scale works well. What a great start you have on your applique border. I love the whole quilt - wonderful background choice!

ReplyDeleteDebra, I think it is lovely! I struggled with my quilt for some time, looked for suggestions, and never moved forward until I finally just went for it and did what I thought was right. If it didn't turn out like I had envisioned it was only a quilt. Do what you love and don't stress!
ReplyDeleteattach the letters to the stem, and add more, perhaps the quilt name across the top? This isn't a formal quilt which will rap knuckles if you step outside the box, it is lively and begs for some fun...

I like the colorful letters. You might even make them in the shape of leaves hanging from your vine.
ReplyDeleteFor cat and dog shapes, you can use a coloring book, or you can take a photo of your pets, load them into fotoflexer, and make a black and white drawing with their tools.
Any way you do it, I love the way this quilt turned out.
Your quilt is looking great. The letters are fun. Ditto to what Marti said....use a coloring book or google clipart of dogs, cats etc. there are shapes out there to be had.
